Song Gems

Have you noticed any little Gems in the music itself, certain guitar things, vocal things or keyboard things that might not be so obvious? What about just moments in the music that stand out to specifically?

Okay, At the moment i am still at that stage of singing my guts out , but will say the keyboard parts in 'Dark Hoilday' are really wonderful, and love the chu, chu chu, tachu, bits are just awesome, me and the kids just love this one for the music rather than the words. I will now do some homework, not sing, tell the kids to stop singing and listen to just the music, (hopefully :)) No listening to Without End', lovely little twinkling keyboard bits here too.

By the way for me Drums don't count, i love drums and these are always the first i listen to, and always my favourite part of a band (thats why i love Slipknot) Okay if you can make any sense of what i have written, wow, its first thing in the morning, brain not awake yet. :)

@cafeeDomminfan: I agree, can't 'beat' drums. After saying that I love the guitar bit at the end of One Feeling, unfortunately for anyone within hearing distance I try to 'sing' that part!

Me too - pity ye my poor neighbours!

I'm like a kid in a candy shop listening to Dommin as there's so much to like from all four of them. I'm like "Oooh, I love that bit... and this next bit... and that too!" And I'm still finding little bits leaping out that I missed for the first hundred or so plays of the song.

I adore Konstantine's piano work on Do You Remember. That song is such a weird mix of NIN in their quieter moments and Kris sounding remarkably like Mark Hollis from Talk Talk on the chorus. All Dommin's own though without sounding plagiaristic.

Cameron's drums in Tonight - that galloping *drrr drrr tshhh* bit. And the start of New *BANG BANG!*

Billy's bassline on New.

Kris - where do I start? Guitar at the beginning and bridge of One Feeling. Too many absolutely glorious little moments to list when you have such an expressive vocalist. I love that little sigh in My Heart Your Hands after the first verse. Kris is one of the few vocalists than can pull the whispers, breathing and sighing off in songs as a way to add emotional impact and emphasis. A lot try and just sound asthmatic or like they have bad vocal technique.

@Herald Moth: As usual love everything you have said.

Sorry still singing, think i'm getting louder And now that the kids are learning the words too its a great big Dommin party at least twice a day in my house.

@Chelle, we have to sing all the parts, words or not, love it.

Promise Kris, when the kids are back to school will spend the day just listening, no singing at all...uuummmm well i hope i can

I admit I'm another who sings/hums the different instrumental parts of the songs - mainly Konstantine's keys because I absolutely love the sound, but I've been known to make crashing drum-like noises during 'Without End' (around 3:35) and mock guitar sounds at different points in other songs.

(Crap, I just got distracted from what I was typing... But I can haz job now, so yay!!!)

Anyhoo... Where was I? Oh yeah! So, I didn't think this would go in any other Gem section. It's all about the motions Kris makes when he sings certain songs and not all of them are in videos. So the first one I can think of is from the opening of 'MHYH' when he says "I can feel the knife carving", he always crosses his heart with his right hand. Then, in 'Dark Holiday', when he sings "Here we are, on a trip to the moon", he points up to the sky, again with his right hand. And in 'New' when he sings "Brush away all the parasites" he brushes off one shoulder at least one time in the song.

So does that make me a stalker or just a very observant fan in the crowd at their concerts? LoL!

Madness makes the world go 'round! I'm of the firm belief that we're all a little bit mad. Hence my reasoning (or at least one of my reasons) for wanting a tattoo of the Cheshire Cat.NOT the Disney version, though, lol.

@ChaoticSabre You forgot to mention when Kris maestros Konstantine at the end of Dark Holiday. =) You're definitely not the only crazy observant one. I can't take my eyes off of them when they're on stage. The building could burn down around me.
